Love to cook?  Better yet, love to eat?  Join our new cooking club!

Here's how it would work:  First you would RSVP that you would like to join.  Then once a month, whoever volunteers to host will choose a theme (Mediterranean food, holiday meal, vegetarian—whatever the host would like).

The host will send out an Evite where those attending will sign up for which course they would like to make--entree, side, appetizer, dessert, special drink, etc.  Then you will bring your completed dish (or almost completed--you may have some finishing touches to do) to the host’s house, along with your recipe.

There we will enjoy a fantastic dinner, share our great recipes, and have some nice conversation!  You don't have to be a great cook.  Making an easy dish that other moms can make on a weeknight would be great.  Or you can go all out and experiment with fancy new recipes.  All are welcome!

        at giggle, Drop Ins welcome, (Details under Community Baby);

Welcome!  We have formed a new Sign Language Playgroup Club. It is open to everyone with babies of all ages. Each lesson will be lead by Michelle (Serena’s Mom), Toby (Penny’s Mom) or Hilarie (Kylah’s Mom), who demonstrate an easy to sign story and/or song.

During open exchange you can learn and re-learn everyday and useful signs to use with your baby. This is a great for those who want to implement sign language. You do not need to know sign language to join. You will learn by attending meetings.

However if you have taken a course or have basic knowledge this group will help solidify and enhance your usage. Meetings will be held on Wednesdays at 3:30 pm.

4:30 pm  “Meet and Greet” the Animals at Larkey Park

Hilarie’s Helpful Hints has invited Tracy Hill from Furs, Scales & Tails to share over 18 types of animals with us during this 45 mins. Show.  There will be an assortment of animals to see, touch, pet and take photographs with after our learning and greeting demonstration.  Come meet chicks to chickens, snacks, guinea pigs, snakes, rabbits and many more!

Bring your picnic blanket and lawn chairs for a comfortable seat for this educational and interactive animal show!  Bring your cameras and don’t be late, this show is not to be missed!

A Typical Fur, Scales, and Tails Show:
There is very little set up involved (three small folding card
tables).  The Animal stars arrive in their travel containers.  Each
Animal is called out one at a time by name and presented to the
audience.  Each Animal then does a trick or two for the enjoyment
of the audience.  Then that particular Animal is presented to the
audience for some petting time.  After every audience member
gets a chance to pet the little star, we then leave that Animal out
on display (eating or playing) for the audience to continue to enjoy
them for the remainder of the show. This pattern continues from
the first to the last Animal.”

Bonus Time:
After the last Animal is presented, the audience will then get
additional time to hold and pet some of their favorite Animal
stars. Additional photos and videos may be taken at this time.

EAT REAL FOOD Festival at Jack London Square in Oakland

Eat Real Festival was founded in 2008 by a group of people who believe that delicious, convenient, affordable and sustainable food should be celebrated through an annual food festival.

We know that today’s eaters are concerned about how to spend their food dollar yet are also increasingly interested in learning about how food choices can contribute to a healthier environment and stronger communities. By using fresh and local ingredients (and their amazing flavors), Eat Real aims to show how easy it can be to support a regional food system by bringing farmers, food producers and eaters together. We're very excited to be supporting more than 200 businesses and organizations.

Eat Real is a social venture business. Our main product - the Eat Real Festival - supports a strong social change agenda. In addition, we donate a small percentage of our profit to several California organizations promoting access to healthy and affordable food, entrepreneurship, and economic development.

SPECIAL PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT:

“Date Night is BACK, Without the Extra Costs!”

WELCOME to the CARE SHARE program, spearheaded by Brittany (Nate’s Mom) you now have an opportunity to have fellow parents be your babysitter for a couple hours while you enjoy a date night out for example, and then in the recent future, return the favor!  Complete with a manageable calendar for all interested participants to fill in their availability & contact information, it’s a reliable, resourceful way to have a night out and feel comfortable with whom your child is with while returning the favor to another family when you are available.

Care-Sharing is where moms swap babysitting duties instead of paying the neighborhood teen to watch their infant.  Since we have a great group of moms around DayOne, we may have a great opportunity to support each other through Care-Sharing based on where we live or where the date is going to be!”      --Brittany (Nate’s Mom)

Lango is a Spanish, French and Mandarin immersion program for kids. We believe children acquire language best through their natural way of learning, PLAY! If you consider how your child began acquiring (and may still be acquiring) their language skills, you’ll probably recognize that play, mimicry and song were all a part of their learning. Our structured curriculum includes games, music, art, stories and dramatic play, all in the chosen language. We teach summer camps, after school programs (pre-school and elementary) and community-based classes. Visit www.LangoKids.com/regions/contra-costa  for more information. Classes are pro-rated for late enrollment.

We call our approach "Adventure Learning" and it suggests that kids learn best when their entire person is involved–not just listening and speaking, but moving, singing, dancing, playing, feeling, creating and solving problems. At Camp Lango, we take Adventure Learning a step further, as kids follow the adventures of our characters the Lango Kids, and then go on their own "adventures," challenging activities that they feel great about completing while learning five days of culturally based lessons.

ABOUT US:

www.LangoKids.com/regions/contra-costa

Lango is based out of San Francisco, CA and has locations across the US, from L.A. to New York City. This past Fall we opened up onto the international stage with classes in China, using the Lango Method to teach English. Our teachers are mostly native speakers and all have a sincere love of children.  Our classes are typically 45 minutes of instruction, one or two times per week. We believe language skills are retained best when they are encouraged at home, so we make class materials such as storybooks, flashcards, puppet Cosmo Dog (our language helper) and language-specific music available for purchase as well.

We have recently opened up onto the international stage with classes in China, using the Lango Method to teach English. While play is at the core of our curriculum, we also know significant studies have reported that studying a foreign language over an extended period of time has been shown to accelerate cognitive development, resulting in higher math and English grades later in life, as well as higher SAT scores. That may be something that is important to you, or for many others it is simply the wonderful sounds of another language spoken or the idea of making future travel for their little ones easier. At LANGO we use many levels of learning and multiple senses to help children understand and retain a new language. In a typical class they will see, hear and touch the things they are learning. If the lesson is "in" and "out", they will experience in and out in a variety of ways, maybe through parachute play or walking through rings or seeing the puppet Cosmo Dog work through an action. We call this "Adventure Learning" and this approach draws on various methods of teaching languages, including Total Physical Response, the Rassias Method and Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Taken in combination, these methods suggest that kids learn best when their entire person is involved–not just listening and speaking, but moving, singing, dancing, playing, feeling, creating and solving problems. Music Together is the internationally recognized music and movement classes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers along with the grown-ups who love them.
Our family-style classes expose children to a rich variety of musical experiences, letting them explore music at their own level, whatever their age or stage of development.

Music Together classes provide you with playful, engaging ways for you and your child to come together and interact musically. With this kind of interaction, your child learns that music is fun and his or her musical skills start to form. You'll hear your child sing to herself (maybe after class is long over!) and see her bounce, rock or jump to the beat. You'll watch your baby experience the vibrations he feels on the big drum, or see his excited reaction to his favorite song.
Music education benefits all areas of learning from language and math skills, to small and large motor abilities and even social and emotional development.

Care Share

Date night is back with no extra costs!

Care Coordinator: Brittany Steward

mbsteward@gmail.com or 925-349-4441

Care Share is an opportunity for parents to exchange child care services with one another.  This works if everyone participating is willing to provide care as well as receive care from other parents.  Imagine, we can go out on date night and not have to worry about the extra expenses of child care!  Plus, we have learned more about each other and our babies at DayOne than most people get to know the local teenage babysitter!  So, why not Care Share?!

As easy as 1-2-3:

1. Contact the Care Coordinator with dates/times you are available to provide care or when you request care.

2. The Care Coordinator update the calendar to reflect what is available.  Updates will be posted on Hilarie’s website.  The Care Coordinator will also contact the providers/requesters as needed.

3. From there, it is in the hands of the parent who is requesting care to work out the fine details with the care provider who is available to watch their child(ren).

Care Share Ethics:

This program is still an infant (ha!)  Suggestions are welcomed and encouraged.

Cooking Club Inviting Members!

If you're interested in joining, email me at chinaharvey1@gmail.com.

Book Club Inviting Members!

Looking for an excuse to NOT read that ‘baby related’ book?  Need an evening out to converse with other adults?  Join our Book Club and don’t worry, no baby related books allowed!

Once a month, the first week of the month will be the timeframe for each Book Club Meeting.  At each meeting, the next date will be decided and the Host will select the next book to be read and the time that works best for them.  The Host will be responsible for drinks and appetizers for that meeting.  We will all take turns, so come join in the fun!  If you cannot make some of the meetings, that’s okay! Just email me that you would like to join so that you are on the “Exclusive BOOK CLUB List!”
